When it comes to the local ramen of Onomichi, the classic is Onomichi ramen: a soy sauce soup topped with bits of pork back fat. I had Onomichi ramen and fried rice at “Kuishinbo Senryo,” a short walk from JR Onomichi Station.
In this article, I introduce the ramen and fried rice at Kuishinbo Senryo, where the shop is and how to get there, and how to fit a visit into your sightseeing in Onomichi.
I stopped by this shop at lunchtime on August 21, 2026, after taking the ferry back to Onomichi from Mukaishima. All photos in this article were taken that day.

1. What is Onomichi ramen? | Soy sauce ramen with floating back fat
Onomichi ramen is the local ramen of Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Its basic form is said to be a soy sauce soup with bits of pork back fat floating on top.
The soup stock and the shape of the noodles differ from shop to shop. Many shops are said to make their stock from chicken bones or small fish from the Seto Inland Sea, and to use flat noodles.
2. The Onomichi ramen I had at Kuishinbo Senryo

The ramen came in a bowl decorated with a dragon, with a brown soy sauce soup. Small pieces of back fat were floating on the surface. The toppings were chashu pork, menma (bamboo shoots), bean sprouts and green onions.
The taste was light and refreshing, and it was very delicious.
Soy sauce soup with floating back fat

When I scooped it up with the spoon, the soup was a clear golden color. In the bowl, white bits of back fat were scattered across the surface of the soup.
Thin, straight noodles

The noodles were thin and straight. They go well with the soup.
3. The fried rice I ordered with it

Along with the ramen, I also ordered fried rice. A generous portion of fried rice with green onions and egg was piled on an octagonal plate.
4. Location and access of Kuishinbo Senryo

The shop is easy to spot, with “Onomichi Ramen Kuishinbo Senryo” written on a large red sign.

It takes about 3 minutes on foot from the South Exit (sea side) of JR Onomichi Station. It is an easy place to drop in when you want a bowl of ramen before catching your train.
Combine it with sightseeing in Onomichi
On that day, I walked around Mukaishima, took the ferry back to the Onomichi side and had ramen at Kuishinbo Senryo for lunch. After that, I took a train from Onomichi Station to my next destination.
